Last day in paradise at Rockport TX

Miraculously we have a smidgen of cellular data signal at our campsite right now.  I figured out how to set up the iPad wifi hotspot feature, so my laptop can connect to the internet.  Meaning, my camera's photos are accessible.  The iPad is a great gizmo but is definitely limiting in some ways.

So before I lose the connection, here are three shots from Goose Island State Park.  The trees are live oaks.

We have driven over to the gulf/beach side of the park but have not spent any time there.  It's your basic seashore, what can I say.  Unless you like to look for birds, like these folks I joined up with the other day for the woods bird walk.

Tomorrow we pull out of here, with some regrets.  It has been a great week here.  I am running out of words to describe the weather.  Fantastic, stunning, perfect, those all fit.  All three of us have settled into a wonderful mellow vacation mode.  Just sitting outside and watching the people and birds go by.   The lack of internet connectivity probably helped!  We have not been completely off line, however, because we have our portable Dish Network dish here and working.  We have been getting caught up on recordings of the Discovery series Gold Rush.  :)

We are going to skip the portion of our plans involving what is known as the Rio Grande Valley (Mission TX on our map), and are heading over to Big Bend National Park.  We plan to stop over in Junction, then a few days in Ft. Davis state park, where we hope to see stars at the McDonald Observatory.    Then down to Big Bend.  It's big country out that way.  Mountain lions, javelinas , and black skies.

Big Bend NP

Hopefully I will shoot out an update from the road tomorrow night.
